Take It Back – Kia Abdullah

Take It Back – Kia Abdullah

About The Book

16 year old Jodie Wolfe, a physically flawed, white young woman, accuses 4 of her male Muslim classmates of raping her. The book takes you through from when Jodie first goes to a lawyer until the courtroom findings and final decision.

My Review: Oh Shit, This was Good

What an explosive and thrilling read. The book was a rollercoaster ride. I kept going backwards and forwards between Jodie and the 4 boys, wondering who was lying. It covers so many interesting themes – the harrowing pain of going to trial as a rape victim, the grey areas of what can be perceived as consent in the eyes of the law, the immigrant class backgrounds of the young boys and their families, the boxes the lawyer is forced into as both a female and a Muslim… PHEW.

Why You Should Read It

A fantastic piece of writing that keeps you guessing, right till the end. I had to read the last few pages a few times – I just couldn’t believe it. I was so invested!
