I also loved that it’s written in the voice of someone struggling to understand dual cultures (Cherokee father, white mother) and where she fits in the world. The abuse her father endured just made me angry, especially when it contrasted against the peace-loving, good-natured, family man that made him such a lovely character to read about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n One day,\u2019 I told him, \u2018God will turn out all the lights to remind people like you that in the dark, you won\u2019t be able to tell who is white like you and who ain\u2019t. We\u2019ll have to treat one another equally. We\u2019ll learn it\u2019s not our skin color that makes us good or bad.
