About the Book
Korey Fields is dead. When Enchanted Jones wakes with blood on her hands and zero memory of the previous night, no one—the police and Korey’s fans included—has more questions than she does. All she really knows is that this isn’t how things are supposed to be. Korey was Enchanted’s ticket to stardom. – Goodreads
My Review: I Don’t Know How I Feel About This Book
This book has amazing reviews, but I don’t know if I agree with them. While the story is fast-paced (I finished it in nearly one sitting, I think), it felt a little bit like watching one of those horror movies where you’re like “WHAT ARE YOU DOING GURL? GET OUTTA THERE!”
But it’s not so easy is it? When you’re young, powerless and you think you’re in love, it’s so easy to get taken advantage of, and you never realise until it’s too late.
Favourite Quotes
Trying to reclaim your life is a lot like drowning. You attempt to stay above water as waves of new information hit you sideways, carrying you further into the unknown. People throw life preservers, but the ropes can only reach so far, and once a riptide catches you by the ankle, all you can do is wonder why you ever thought you’d be OK jumping into the deep end, when you could barely manage the shallows.
Why You Should Read It
I didn’t know this at the time I read it, but it’s inspired by the allegations of abuse and sexual misconduct against R Kelly. Trigger warning for: grooming, emotional manipulation, sexual assault.
